Encaustic is an ancient technique in painting which uses liquid hot bees wax mixed with resin, oil and pigment as paint.
When the wax cools down and solidifies, the wax isolates the pigment. Because of this process the colours are very bright and the paintings obtain an intense appearance. Characteristic for this painting technique is the surface with relief.
